Boston Digital Develops A Drupal Metaverse Connector

Throughout history there have been pivotal moments in technology, they are easier to identify in hindsight and many times there are arguments about which moment was the catalyst for change. When it comes to the internet some would argue that DARPA invented the internet, while others will say it was the research of Robert Kahn and Vint Cerf from UCLA that created the foundational protocols that would give birth to the internet. At Boston Digital we believe that one of those pivotal moments is upon us. The Metaverse is a catchphrase and to be honest, it is void of specific meaning; it is more an idea now. But we believe whether it is Meta, Apple, Microsoft, or any of the various companies that are racing towards Virtual Reality that this is the beginning of something much bigger.
When websites first started to become popular, the methods to produce them were arduous. It was static HTML files, FTP, with no real system in place to handle traffic, and themes were basic. But there came a point when any business that wanted to be considered legitimate had to have a web property. As time went on the only way to scale these web properties was to put the power of editing and creating content into the hands of the marketers and their teams. Waiting for a developer to make content changes, FTP those changes to the server, etc. was no longer viable.
As Virtual Reality gains popularity, as the headsets become more comfortable, smaller, lighter, faster, and more powerful more people will be using them, and it will start to merge into our everyday lives just as the internet did. Having a disconnect between your CMS and virtual reality would be descending back to that cumbersome process outlined above and any change from major overhauls to minor spelling edits would need to be outsourced to the developer of your virtual reality space. As it stands the only way to make changes within a VR application is to have a team of developers that will be available to make those changes, QA analysts to review, release the update, which will then trigger an update on the client that is using the application. The long process would cost your business wasted time and open the doors to risk. History is repeating itself, but Boston Digital has an idea to speed up the inevitable.
The problem is that no one is going to want to work on content for VR if it is going to be so difficult to get it done. But what if it was as easy as editing a website? That is what Boston Digital set out to do. We have developed a connector that will allow anyone that knows how to create or edit the content on a website the ability to create or edit content in VR. The iterative process to get to this point is to start by connecting an event handler within the VR space to pick up when content changes are made and to display the new content. Once that can occur flawlessly the next step will be to add virtual assets to the Digital Asset Management system and to have those connected to the VR property so that a content editor can add, remove, or replace assets within the VR space with ease and without the need to redeploy the code that makes it all happen. With the help of Boston Digital, businesses can create their space in the Metaverse and edits can be simply made by an adman or a marketer, streamlining the process.
Innovation is nothing new to the Boston Digital team. When businesses were struggling to manage their content Boston Digital’s Founder and CEO, Chuck Murphy saw a solution. The product of his innovation was Smartwebs (Web-based content management applications that allowed businesses to ensure a further layer of accuracy and accountability by requiring the review and approval of Web content before it is published to a company Web site or Intranet). Further developing technology to enhance businesses’ performance and modernize their path to success is the foundation of Boston Digital and we are prepared to do it again with the Metaverse.
